Volodymyr Lytvyn declared his Support of Volunteering
On Monday, Volodymyr Lytvyn,
Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,
met the students of Sumy
State University,
volunteers of "Dopomoha onkokhvorym
ditiam" ("Assistance to the Children with Oncological
Diseases") charitable fund. The participants of the meeting discussed the prospects
of development of the public health sector, enhancement of social security of
medical staff and remuneration of their labour, promotion and support of
volunteering in Ukraine.
Volodymyr Lytvyn stated that the Youth Parliament would launch its work in the nearest time, including the committee on legislative initiatives. He invited the students to join this institution to take part in the drafting of corresponding legislation. "This sector shall be governed by normal laws", the Head of the Parliament stated. He deems necessary to establish cooperation with foreign volunteering organisations. "Unfortunately, establishment and activity of the youth movements and organizations is politically biased, V.Lytvyn stated. Selfless devotion demonstrated in Sumy region in the support of the sick and the lonely must be encouraged."
The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada
of Ukraine
deems necessary to develop not only legislative provisions in this field, but
also "a system of encouragement for the people to feel respect and honour for
their work."
Volodymyr Lytvyn stated that the State Budget envisaged UAH 30 million for the medical treatment of children with oncological diseases in need of bone marrow transplantation. UAH 15 million have been already allocated for this purpose. "The rest of the sum shall be immediately allotted to save the children´s lives, the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament stated. I negotiate full allocation of funds with the Ministry of Finance."
V.Lytvyn briefed on the drafting of the bill on amendments to the State Budget, which shall be brought before Parliament in the nearest time. The bill raises budgetary appropriations for the medical treatment of children with oncological diseases abroad.
Valentyna Markevych,
President of "Dopomoha onkokhvorym
ditiam" ("Assistance to the Children with Oncological
Diseases") charitable fund, invited Volodymyr Lytvyn to attend the children
festival "Sumy Carnival-2010" as an honourable guest. The festival is scheduled
for 5 June, being dedicated to the International Children´s Day and fundraising
campaign for the children with oncological diseases. The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine
accepted the invitation and expressed his gratitude to the students-volunteers
for their involvement and charity. He also promised his assistance to their
activity.
